I once had the chance to travel through Kyushu, in the southern part of Japan. On that day, I was wandering alone in the cold breeze of Beppu, escaping the overwhelming heat of the onsen.<\/div>\n

As I got lost in a small alley, I came across a large citrus tree standing inside a wooden house. The light was beautiful, steam drifted up from the streets, and the tree stood quietly behind a partially open wall. I found myself searching for the perfect angle to take a photo.<\/div>\n

While I was standing there, I noticed the homeowner sweeping leaves beneath the tree. He looked up and caught my eye. I quickly bowed. Seeing the camera in my hand, he seemed to understand. He smiled, made an \u201cokay\u201d gesture, then beckoned me closer and handed me a large Iyokan, saying,<\/div>\n

I accepted it, a little shy, and stepped aside near the street. As I peeled the fruit and took a bite, its juicy sweetness burst across my senses contrasting the cold air and blending with the gentle warmth of the onsen town.<\/div>\n
